Hell Hound
Paul from Milton Keynes was living in a squat in London in the 90s. It was a big old townhouse in Ladbroke Grove with 10 occupied bedrooms and a huge communal space on the ground floor.
They frequently had parties there, inviting friends from all over the capital to come and drink for the night. Quite often people would just find somewhere comfortable to sleep so the house would be covered in bodies until everybody went home the next day.
At one of these gatherings, someone brought an ouija board to play with and a brave group of souls decided to try and find someone to talk to.
There was no planchette with the board so they used an upturned glass, placing their fingers on the top.
About 10 people were crammed around the table and it was difficult to find space for a finger on the small space on top of the glass.
Paul says that because there were so many people trying to fit on the glass that it would have been impossible for someone to move it on their own to play tricks on someone.
Questions were asked to try and commune with a spirit, and it wasn’t long before ‘is there anyone here who would like to talk to us’ was answered by the glass moving to ‘yes’.
It was the early hours of the morning at this point and all those at the table were pretty drunk, so were shrieking and laughing as they spoke to a man who called himself John and used to be a servant at the house they were in. He said he died of the lung and was buried in a paupers grave at the church nearby.
They spoke to this alleged spirit for about an hour, with it constantly answering questions with yes or no. They also argued with each other about who was moving the glass because it couldn’t possibly be true.
They eventually asked John why he was there and John answered ‘I’ve come for you’
Things became quiet at this point, with everyone looking to someone else to see if they were messing about. No one was smiling any more.
‘Who have you come for?’ Someone asked.
John replied ‘Paul’
Paul freaked out at this point and run away from the table along with many of the others. He says that they didn’t break the glass like you’re supposed to when you end a ouija board session but thought nothing of it.
Demon Dog Comes Out To Play
Most people had found somewhere to sleep by now so the friends all took up a spot on the floor in the living room and went to sleep.
At about 4.30 in the morning, Paul woke to the living room door slowly creeping open, and he lifted his head to see who was coming in. It stopped half way open, but no one came through it, so Paul went back to sleep.
Shortly after, he felt what seemed to be a large dog walking around him until it stopped, stood over him and licked his face. He could feel its breath on his cheek and hear it snorting over him. He thought nothing of it and pushed its face away.
When he woke later on that afternoon, there were still some stragglers hanging around drinking coffee in the kitchen. He joined them and asked who had brought a bloody dog to their party. Everyone looked confused.
‘Nobody brought their dog to a party Paul. That would be stupid’
Paul explained what had happened and told them he had even felt the warm furry face as he’d pushed it out of the way so he could go back to sleep. But everyone was adamant. Nobody had brought a dog to the house.
A chill went down Paul’s spine. Had he brought some kind of demon through when they’d talked on the ouija board? Was this the thing that had come for him? Why had he been the only one to see the door open and feel the creature near him?
Paul is convinced that because they hadn’t broken the glass after they’d used the board, they had left a portal open that enabled something to cross over.
So what do you think? Did Paul have an other worldly visitor? Could alcohol have anything to do with his experience? Was he perhaps dreaming, which is why he was the only one who experienced it?
I have an episode later on in the series about talking boards, with lots of research and insights for you to explore. So be sure to subscribe so that you don’t miss it.
A great spooky encounter to dissect.
